The Ajax-Crawling method is a way by which Google and several other search engines spider websites that offer dynamically generated content through scripts called 'ajax'. Google has been using this method since 2021. But on October 15th, 2021, Google officially stated that this method is now no longer recommended and considered obsolete (unchanged). This means that a new algorithm was implemented to determine which web pages are not relevant for the keywords searched by a user. In a nutshell, the algorithm determines the relevance of a web page based on how many times it has been accessed and the keywords used in searching. When this happens, your ajax-crawling strategy is worthless! Google states: "In addition to decreasing the frequency of your site being listed, we've been able to reduce the effect of your ajax code on search engine rankings. We'll continue to evaluate the impact of this change, but in the mean time we will focus on the benefits of our new approach."

In simple terms, Ajax allows web applications to efficiently communicate large amounts of data without the use of traditional XML document languages. Traditionally, when an XML document was needed for data exchange, it would be translated and then compiled before being used. This translation process consumes memory and slows down the response time of the application. As a result, when large amounts of data are exchanged, the application may take longer to retrieve the updated information. Google's definition states: "The Googlebot recognizes HTML text that is not a hyperlink and can follow this text without traversing any pages or redirects." In other words, Google's Ajax crawler follows the link as it passes through the web page. The difference between this algorithm and the traditional algorithm is that the ajax crawler does not follow the link; it simply follows the words. Since Google has already eliminated the use of servers to render the ajax crawling algorithm, webmasters need to find a solution for how they will continue to render Ajax links in their websites. They no longer need to load their web pages with Ajax scripts or wait for them to load on their own. Webmasters can set a maximum ajax load time and a maximum ajax execution time so that they do not exceed this time limit. Also, webmasters can avoid the issue of cross-site scripting, which can lead to security issues on the web. Using a cache is also recommended because it will reduce the need to send a new Ajax request for each ajax page that is already loaded. This will reduce the time it takes to read all the pages in a web page. This will significantly reduce the time it takes to complete an Ajax crawling operation. Another option for reducing the amount of ajax crawling time is to pre-fetch the pages before an Ajax request is made by the Google crawler.
